Appointment of Chairman

Minutes:

*           Resolved that Councillor Bowden be appointed as Chairman for this meeting of the Committee.


Councillor Bowden here took the Chair.

 

The Chair welcomed Rhian Hesketh, Solicitor to her first meeting of the Committee.

During discussion on the following item Councillor Bowden declared a Personal, Non- Pecuniary Interest in the item and remained in the meeting, took part in the discussion and voted thereon.

Correspondence on Commemoration of 300 Year Anniversary of Sarah Cowley pdf icon PDF 849 KB

Minutes:

The Management Accountant presented correspondence received by the Director of Children and Young Peoples’ Services on 1 November 2013 from MP Dave Watts on behalf of a Local resident querying if there was an intention to mark the 300 year anniversary of Sarah Cowley in 2015.

 

Members discussed the correspondence.

Minutes:

The Management Accountant presented a report detailing a request from the Sarah Cowley 300 Year Anniversary Planning Committee.

 

It was the intention of the Sarah Cowley Planning Committee to commemorate the 300 year anniversary of Sarah Cowley signing her will in 1714, which provided money to educate poor children in St Helens. A legacy they believed deserved recognition.

 

It was the planning Committees intention to organise a number events over the next few years to highlight the success of Sarah Cowley’s bequest and to update and reprint a booklet written about Sarah and her influence on the town.

 

The report from the Sarah Cowley Planning Committee detailed their present plans from February 2014/2015. The plans included a remembrance service, exhibits and heritage weekends, school projects, concert and dinner events and the reprint of the ‘Memories of Cowley’ booklet and 'Cowley Schools, ‘ Intentions, Interpretations and Interference' book.

The request to the Committee was to aid with the costs of re-printing the updated book ‘The Cowley Schools Intentions, Interpretations and Interference’ by Ken Taylor.

 

*           Resolved that:

 

(1)  the report be noted;

 

(2)  the Sarah Cowley Planning Committee be thanked for informing the Committee of the proposed plans to commemorate the 300 year anniversary; and

 

(3)  the report be submitted to the Events Manager.
